In order to practice as a General Practitioner (GP) in the UK, it is essential to meet the following criteria:
- License – In the UK, doctors are required to be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), follow their good medical practice and be subject to their Fitness to Practice actions. We will help you get this license when you register with us. In order to complete your registration you will be required to attend a short interview to obtain approval to sit the I&R MCQ assessment.
- English Language Certificate – To work as a doctor in the UK, you require an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 7.0 in each of the four areas tested (speaking, listening, reading and writing) and an overall score of 7.5.
- Certificate of Eligibility (outside EEA) – for those GPs who were trained outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), a certificate of eligibility is required – the Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration (CEGPR). Steps to Become a Registered Doctor in the UK
The registration process follows 5 steps:
- Evidence of GMC Recognized Qualification: Provide evidence of a GMC-recognized primary care medical qualification.
- English Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in English through the IELTS/OET Exam.
- GMC Registration: Register with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- MCQ Assessment: Successfully pass the MCQ assessment.
Induction & Refresher (I&R) Scheme: Complete the Induction & Refresher Scheme, allowing you to commence work under the supervision of a senior doctor. Upon I&R Scheme completion, you’ll be registered on the National Medical Performers List, granting you the freedom to practice as a GP in the UK.
